The last time I left you we were all preparing to go out on our routes in the afternoon. We all eventually met for pizza or ice cream. We had no problem getting there but getting back was a bit of a challenge. Main and 2ND is a T-intersection and a few of us had a bit of trouble with it. We ended going up a block and reversing our steps but I could have sworn that Jim told me to cross there. Oh well, so much for my memory. Other then that, the trip was fine.
I joined the rest of my classmates at the table for dinner but didn’t eat. I ate enough when we went for pizza. The pizza was so so. We have far better pizza places at home, that is for sure :).
After dinner I groomed Harold. It must have been a lot of fun for him as a puppy or something. He is the only dog who wags his tail throughout the whole experience. That makes for an interesting challenge at times :).
It was time to go hear all about those things that we can buy from GDB. I left when they got into the clothing items. I am going to mainly get equipment items: extra leashes, extra rug, extra tie downs, a collapsible water bowl, a comb, an extra bone for the Harold boy, a Kong (although I may get that at the pet store) and more.
I took Harold out and then started to get ready for bed. I called Keri and found out that Brian wasn’t back from his school event. He didn’t make it home until 11:00 or so. Oh what a fun night. Suffice it to say, I am a bit tired this morning.
Today, Sunday, it is Super Bowl day. We will have Brunch at 10:00 until 12:30 and then a Super Bowl party at 3:00PM at the Visitors Center. They will show the game on a big screen. I will bring my walkman and listen to the commentary of the game on the radio. That really is the best way to hear the game anyway if you want to truly know what is going on.
Hi Jeff,
Glad you enjoyed your outing and the pizza. It’s funny you would mention listening to the game on the radio. My blog friend Nancy just wrote the same thing that her husband (who is blind) prefers to listen to the game on the radio because they know you can’t see it and do a better job of describing it. I’ll catch up with you all later when I get to work…have a glorious Sunday. Mary
Sorry the pizza was somewhat disappointing, knew you were looking forward to it. but hope hanging out with the group was fun? Though, you all got a bit confused, what is important you made it back to the lounge, knew you would. I think its best listening to a game on the radio also. I know a lot of people, who watch the game by lowering the volume on the tv and turn up the stereo. That seems ideal, this way, they can see what is happening but here the commentary on the radio and get the feedback we, need as blind folks. this way, noone misses anything.! Also,, if set up this way, one can mingle and socialize with others and not miss the event. Maybe, you all can do that, today? have fun, go Cardinals! I am not a football fan but would be nice for our team to win, being that I am from Arizona. Enjoy your day off since I know it will be the last one you have for a while. you probably return back to work next Monday and will be wicked tired when you get back home next Sunday. take care.
Sounds like you had a great time yesterday. Believe it or not, I don’t have a portable analog radio these days. Karen does, but I just don’t have it or know where it could possibly be, and I haven’t for a good couple of years now. I’m going to a Super Bowl party where the game will be shown on a 40-inch screen in our First Amendment Forum at school. Can you tell me if the Super Bowl will be streamed anywhere on the net from a radio station? In any case, at least I’m really going for the socialization aspects more than the game. I’ll be staying only till half-time. Enjoy.
I don’t have much to say, other than I am happy to see you thriving in that environment and learning a lot. It’s really cool for me because I remember what it was like there when I went, I knew Mary and Belva and they are both such wonderful people, they really watch out for health issues and comfort issues. If you remember to, please say from Julio and I to them.
I am glad that even though parts of the training were rough and you have had more on your mind than just the training, I am glad that you are doing so well. As I read your writing, I see all of these great signs of progress, and remember my emotions back when I trained. You’re doing great and I am so proud of you and so proud to be your friend.
Keep up the excellent work and play. And please call me if you need anything, I have missed talking on skype, and I miss our times together at CSUN, so even if you just need to vent, or need support, I am here.
I am so glad to know that you’re training on the campus I trained on because I have concrete memories and know you’ll get the support and help you need, but when you and Harold leave, they’ll be there too, by phone or by visit. If I had a tellaportation device, I’d be there at graduation but unfortunately no one has invented that yet. So please know I’ll be in your unseen and unheard crowd of people who are excited to see you graduate.
I’ll comment again when I’m more awake, I realized I’ve started to drift through topics and so maybe I have just a tiny bit of time to blog.
Travel Joyfully.
Jeff,
Sorry you guys had a bit of confusion getting back from having pizza. But getting out on those independant routes are always great.
I saw the game yesterday and am really bummed over the Cardinals losing. I was routing for them. Darn!
This is your last week. That is pretty cool. Have a great week.
Happy tail wags from Tennyson to Harold.
